What stays on your phone
CurbSnap is a private curb book. Photos you snap or import, text read from those photos, and contacts in your Personal, Business, and Work books are stored locally on the device. We do not receive those books on our servers unless you copy a contact into a shared book or use AI fill on Pro (see below).
What the app can access
- Camera — to photograph signs, vans, cards, and lists.
- Photos you import — gallery pictures you choose, and spreadsheet files you choose to import.
- Phone Contacts — only if you export or add people to the phone book. CurbSnap does not copy your curb book into Contacts on its own.
- Internet — Google ML Kit may download on-device text-recognition models. Reading a photo on the phone does not upload that photo to us. Pro shared books, Google Sign-In, subscriptions, and (when connected) AI fill use Google Firebase and our cloud Worker (see below).
Plans and billing
Free: 25 contacts on this phone, no sync. $6.99/month or $69.99/year (Pro on Google Play) is over 25 contacts, shared books, and AI that fills what the photo missed when the cloud Worker is connected. Billing is handled by Google Play. We receive purchase status from Google so the app can unlock features; we do not collect your payment card details. There is no one-time License.
Pro shared books (account + cloud sync)
If you subscribe to Pro and create or join a shared book:
- Google Sign-In — you sign in with your Google account so we can tell who owns or joined a shared book. We receive basic account identifiers from Google (such as your Google account ID and email) through Firebase Authentication.
- What syncs — contacts you copy into that shared book: name, title, company, phones, email, website, address, notes, categories, and the contact photo. Personal, Business, and Work books on your phone do not upload unless you copy someone into a shared book.
- Where it is stored — shared-book data is stored in Google Firebase (Firestore for contact fields, Cloud Storage for photos) in a Google Cloud project we operate. Co-owners of the same shared book can read and update that data.
- Invite codes — codes that let a teammate join your shared book are stored in Firebase until used or rotated.
- Leaving a shared book — removes your copies of shared contacts on your phone. Other co-owners keep their shared copy.
AI that fills what the photo missed
When you have Pro and the cloud Worker is connected, CurbSnap may send that contact’s photo (or crop) to a cloud AI provider through our backend to fill fields the on-phone reader missed. This runs when you ask for an AI fill, or automatically on some messy single vans/signs/cards. We do not send Personal/Business/Work books wholesale. The on-phone reader still runs without uploading. Fair-use quota: about 200 pictures per person per month, then on-phone reading only. Photos sent for that AI fill are processed to return contact fields; they are not used to train public AI models under our paid Google AI arrangement.
Backup
If Android Backup is on, local contact records (names, phones, companies, categories, notes, books) can be included in your Google backup. Curb photos are excluded from that cloud backup because of the ~25MB size cap. Uninstalling on the same phone often will not restore that backup — Google usually restores when you set up a phone from a backup. Photos can still copy during a phone-to-phone device transfer. Pro can also make an optional zip file copy (contacts + photos). Shared-book photos in Firebase stay in the cloud for the crew and are separate from Android Backup.
Sharing from the app
Call, text, email, share sheet, and save-to-Photos send data to the app you pick (Messages, Gmail, and so on). Those apps have their own policies. Mass text and email use the channels on your phone; we do not send those messages through a CurbSnap server.
Analytics and ads
The app does not include advertising or a third-party analytics SDK. We do not sell your information.
Children
CurbSnap is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect information from them.
Delete account
To request deletion of your CurbSnap account and associated shared-book data, see Delete account.
